When elegance meets exoticism

Definition and role in interior design

A Moroccan lamp is a ceiling-mounted light fixture inspired by traditional Moroccan design, often in cut-out metal or coloured glass, with a handcrafted look. It serves as much to light a room as to lend it the warm, exotic ambience of Morocco. Thanks to their unique, ethnic design, these hanging lamps bring a touch of originality and authenticity to your interior decor.

Styles available on the market

There are many lamp styles to choose from, depending on the materials used (metal, glass, rattan, palm, raffia) and the shapes (lampshade, lantern, water drop, globe, woven wicker). Each style and each product has its own characteristics and brings a special atmosphere to your Moroccan interior.

Tips for choosing the right hanging lamp

To choose the lamp that best suits your tastes and your interior, analyse:

  • The size of the room: adapt the size of the pendant light to the space available.
  • The decorating style: opt for a lamp model that blends harmoniously with the rest of your decor.
  • The quantity and quality of light desired: some lamp models diffuse a softer light, while others offer more intense illumination.

Nature and metal in Moroccan design: the materials of a Moroccan lamp

The use of rattan and palm

Rattan and palm are two natural materials much appreciated in the manufacture of traditional Moroccan pendant lights. Their lightness, strength and flexibility allow lighting fixtures in a variety of original shapes.

Raffia and doum for a handcrafted look

Raffia and doum are also used to make Moroccan lamps. These natural fibres give lighting fixtures an authentic, handcrafted look, while ensuring their sturdiness.

Brass and metal for a vintage look

To give a vintage look, Moroccan designs often incorporate brass or other metals into hanging lights, as in this Moroccan-style oriental hanging light with metal openwork. Metal is used in almost all the models in our selection, sometimes combined with glass. This mix of materials lends a unique oriental and Arab style to the fixtures.

Diversity and originality: the different types of Moroccan lamps

Pendant lights with lampshades

Lampshade pendant lights diffuse a warm, subdued light, ideal for creating a cosy ambience in your home. They come in many shapes, sizes and materials to suit every mood.

Lantern-shaped pendant lights

Lantern-shaped pendant lights provide mysterious Moroccan oriental lighting. Their openwork patterns cast shadows on the walls, creating an enchanting, exotic atmosphere.

Woven wicker hanging lamps

Woven wicker pendant lights are reminiscent of authentic Moroccan Berber style. Their natural design with a handcrafted look brings a touch of authenticity to your home decor.

How to incorporate Moroccan pendant lights into your decor

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, opt for a Moroccan chandelier that diffuses soft, subdued light, conducive to relaxation. A pendant light in coloured glass or a conical lampshade with fringes will be ideal.

In the living room

In the living room, opt for an eye-catching Moroccan lamp. An oriental lamp or an openwork metal ceiling light will make a splash.

In the hallway and on the stairs

To brighten up a hallway or staircase, choose Moroccan hanging lights in a lantern or drop shape that are easy to maintain: their cut-out patterns cast shadows on the walls as you pass.

Installing your Moroccan lamp: tips and tricks

Choosing the right drop height

For optimum lighting, be sure to adapt the height of your Moroccan lamp to the ceiling height and the use of the room.

Our Moroccan pendant lights in detail

Almost all our Moroccan pendant lights are made of metal, often with cut-out or sculpted patterns, and about a third use glass, from red glass to black motifs. Gold is the most common finish, followed by brown, with some white, grey, black, red and multicoloured models. Nearly all are Moroccan in style, a third more broadly oriental, and the shapes are mainly water drops, lanterns and globes.

They suit a living room, dining room or bedroom, as well as a hallway or staircase where the patterned shadows can be seen on the walls. Some take an E27 bulb and one has integrated LEDs; the product page shows whether the bulb is included. All ship from our warehouse in China, with delivery in about 8 working days on average. Examples include the multicoloured Moroccan-style pendant light, the oriental cut-out metal pendant light and the retro Moroccan drop-shaped pendant light.
